This New Horror Film Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Sit down with your significant other and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like conventional physical horror, but within Together resides a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

An Introductory Film Exploring Relationship Dynamics

Together is the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their characters, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a enduring union.

The story begins when the couple move from the urban environment to the rural area for her career. A somewhat stereotypical story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes end. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While trekking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and Millie and Tim tumble into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity begins influencing the duo. This force compels a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing moments of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but tastefully done) biological grotesqueries, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director orchestrates these parts neatly and delivers them in a gradually swelling atmosphere of fear.

Nuanced Portrayals

A large part of Together is solely the two lead actors, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is deteriorating due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and distant from his social circle. He is terrified of the notion of totally forfeiting his sense of self in Millie. This fear is amplified by the circumstance he can’t drive and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he avoids making either of his characters the obvious villain.

Both characters confront the type of challenges that come with long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They find humor with each other, provide solace, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these fears of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which is best experienced firsthand, has sparked debate on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. Accounts suggest that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for staying single. Meanwhile, certain partners experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
