He was presented with the prize on 16 October as his third album the album was declared the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots had in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing this success if it wasn't for all the performances I performed around the area, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said the artist. "These locations are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these spaces have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

He also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his recent tour to help thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

The money helped locations that were confronting potential shutdown due to issues stemming from floods, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and noise complaints.

Other venues obtained financial assistance in improving infrastructure and technical equipment that positively impacted artists and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in large arenas helps the independent spots, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

And winners that year the group contributed their award to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"Winning was ample," remarked singer Heather Small. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved several grassroots venues in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.
